Mike Kazan’s practice encompasses a wide variety of complex commercial litigation in the state and federal courts, including trade secrets and other intellectual property disputes, covenants not to compete, consumer fraud claims, employment matters and insurance coverage disputes. Prior to entering private practice, Mike clerked for Judge Terence T. Evans of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit and Senior Judge Daniel M. Friedman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Representative cases:
Republic Tobacco Co. v. North Atlantic Trading Co., Inc., 381 F. 3d 717 (7th Cir. 2004); Republic Tobacco Co. v. North Atlantic Trading Co., Inc, No. 98 C 4011, 2003 WL 22794561 (N.D. Ill. Nov. 21, 2003). Obtained jury verdict for client on defamation claim that was reported in National Law Journal (2/9/04) as one of the top 100 verdicts of 2003. McIntyre v. Household Bank, Case No. 02 C 1537, 2004 WL 2958690 (N.D. Dec. 21, 2004) (denying plaintiff’s motion for class certification in a consumer fraud case; granting client’s motion for summary judgment). IDX Systems Corp. v. Epic Systems, Corp. et al., 285 F.3d 581, 62 U.S.P.Q.2d 1278 (7th Cir. 2002) (obtained reversal of trial court’s summary judgment ruling against client on tortious interference and breach of contract claims). Lynch, Inc. v. SamataMason, Inc., 279 F. 3d 487, 61 U.S.P.Q.2d 1603 (7th Cir. 2002) (affirming order enforcing settlement agreement in intellectual property dispute).
