German runner-up comes from Wirsberg

From the wirsberg archers sabine leuschner, andrea joi (both blank bow), cosima leuschner (compound bow) and achim degel (age class blank bow) had qualified for the german championship in mittenwald. The trip to upper bavaria ended for sabine leuschner with a place on the podium – as second in the blank bow class.

Nestled between the karwendel and wetterstein mountains, the archers had to complete a demanding 1200-meter course with two sets of 24 targets. The steep cross-country profile and the hummocky meadows there were a real challenge in terms of pushing technique and physical condition.

Martina glagow gives the starting signal
The starting signal for the first day of competition was given by former world class biathlete martina beck. Six hours of full concentration was required for the shooters, who knew the distances to the targets: bare bow five and 50 meters, compound ten and 60 meters. After initial difficulties, sabine leuschner was able to finish with 248 rings behind the national cadre protector ulrike koini (altenkirchner BS, 294 rings), hedi mittermeier (TSV stein st. Georgen, 269 rings), martina boscher (BS munster, 255 rings) and jutta schneider-borns (BS munster, 255 rings) achieved 5th place. Andrea was on the road with her 15. Place after half time not satisfied. For cosima leuschner, who changed from recurve to compound bow only one year ago, it was her first german championship – all the more pleasing was her 6th place. Place. Achim degel finished the first day in 7th place.

On the second day, the 24-slice course with unknown distances had to be mastered, which once again demanded everything from the shooters. The distance to the pane must be estimated by the shooter in the process. An estimation error of about five meters already leads to a miss with the blank bow.

Strong second round
The groups of four guards each were reorganized according to the previous day's results. Thus each guard had his direct opponents in the field of vision. Sabine leuschner got into her rhythm faster this time and shot 303 rings. She was extremely pleased with this. She and gundelind schneider had a thrilling duel – at the end, the wirsberger was in the lead by a hair's breadth of three rings. What the result was worth would only become clear later, because the group of the first four had not yet finished their competition.

When the list of results was posted after the official evaluation by the DSB, the jubilation in the wirsberg camp was enormous. Sabine leuschner pulled off the big surprise: her strong second run put her in 2nd place. She took first place and became german runner-up in the blank bow class with an excellent 551 rings, ahead of gundelind schneider (548). Better was only the exceptional shooter ulrike koini with 617 rings. Andrea, who has only been actively shooting for four years, took 16th place. Place.

Cosima leuschner still lost two places, but could be satisfied with her 8th place. He can be just as satisfied with his rank as achim degel, who came in seventh in the final rankings.
