More than half of municipalities have recently raised taxes

More than half of municipalities have recently raised taxes

To get more money into the coffers, more than half of the cities and municipalities in germany have raised taxes in recent years. This is the result of a recent analysis by the consulting company ernst& young (EY), which is available to the deutsche presse-agentur.

Accordingly, 53 percent of all municipalities have raised the business tax for companies at least once since 2012. 60 percent of municipalities have since raised the B property tax on developed and developable land. The taxes were lowered in the period as good as nowhere.

The two taxes are essential sources of revenue for cities and municipalities and can be set by them through the so-called levy rates. From federal state to federal state and also within the individual states, there are therefore sometimes serious differences, also depending on the financial situation of the municipalities. In the case of property tax, for example, the bandwidth in north rhine-westphalia alone, the state with the highest average rates, ranges from 260 percent (harsewinkel) to 959 percent (bergneustadt).

Ochsenfurt’s manners experience their sixth happy ending?

ochsenfurt's manners experience their sixth happy ending?

No, the current situation for the handball players of TV ochsenfurt is certainly not new. With two games to go, they are deep in the relegation battle in the district’s top division, as they have been for the five years since they were promoted back to the top flight in 2007. "Otherwise the fourth last place has always sufficed. This time it will be difficult, considering our remaining program and that of the others," says tobias schulling, one of ochsenfurt’s survivalists.

The 39-year-old teacher, who supervises the team together with marco schuler and still plays a part on the parquet, knows how difficult the task is. This time in giebelstadt and then at home against the reserve of DJK rimpar, which is already the champion, TV ochsenfurt will have to play. Three teams have already been relegated: TSV mellrichstadt, TV etwashausen and SG kitzingen/mainbernheim. In addition it will catch one of the quartet MHV schweinfurt, DJK waldbuttelbrunn II, HSG volkach or TV ochsenfurt.

It is possible that the direct comparison between opponents will be used again, as it has been the case more often in the past. Ochsenfurt had been ahead of lohr II in 2012 and also of TV dettelbach the year before. This year the TVO was better than waldbuttelbrunn II, but against schweinfurt in the disadvantage.

A trade unionist in body and soul

A trade unionist in body and soul

He is the senior citizens’ representative of IG metall in the kitzingen district. And that is somehow logical. Who else should take on this work than alois klebes??

His life is the union. He stands behind their goals, their values and he appreciates the community. The man from kleinlangheim has been a union member for 50 years, and his wife edith for 49 years. When asked whether unions will continue to be important in the future, the otherwise courteous and cheerful alois klebes looks at his counterpart as if he is not of this world. "Of course," he says then. "Just think of the IT industry. The poor guys have to be available around the clock. It is not possible."

Pioneering schafkopf evenings

Throughout his working life, alois klebes has championed the interests of employees. At the age of 24, he was already the chairman of the works council at the baumuller company in kitzingen, germany. He had previously learned at the company rothe. Every day he rode his moped from his home town of konigheim in tauberfranken to kitzingen. One hour there, one hour back. After the first winter, he took a room with the former locksmith of the fehrer company in the housing estate. In the evening, he played schafkopf with his works council chairman and his colleague from huppmann. Young alois got involved as a "brunskarter" – and got infected with the union virus. "We need a good and functioning counterweight to the employers," he is still convinced today. Without the unions, the gap between rich and poor would widen even further. He fought for workers’ rights throughout his active career. He describes the implementation of sick pay insurance in the 60s and 70s as a major achievement. "Today a matter of course."He also thinks back fondly to the introduction of the 35-hour week. "So we could save hundreds of thousands of jobs."

Commerzbank emphasizes own strong despite profit slump

Commerzbank is not letting a slump in profits at the start of the year deter it from its independent course. After the cancellation of a merger with deutsche bank, the partially nationalized institution must prove that it is still strong enough on its own.

"Through growth, we are strengthening our earnings base and counteracting the low interest rates and the decline in margins," said group ceo martin zielke. "Of course, we will continue to work in a focused manner to increase our earning power."

In the fall, the commerzbank board of managing directors plans to explain how the bank, which focuses on private customers as well as smes and corporate customers, is to be further developed after 2020. After goals from sofia maccari (15. Minute), noel barrionuevo (28.), carla rebecchi (32.) and josefina srouga (37.) the team of the german field hockey federation (DHB) was already trailing 0:4.
